Turki, Wife of the Prince of the eastern region launched on Wednesday, November
23, 2016 the events the annual reception and the fifth edition of the Women Economic
Forum 2016, organized by Asharqia Chamber under the title «Saudi women .. the power of effect to lead a change»,
Sheraton Hotel in Dammam amid of a crowd of attendance of local, Gulf and Arab
female figures.
Her
Highness Princess Abeer bint Faisal bin Turki, wife of the Prince of the
Eastern Region, expressed in her speech in the forum, her appreciation to women
the region, stressing the distinctiveness of Saudi women in general in the
business world, pointing to the need to take the information from their sources
because we can not take a step forward without complete informations.
Her
Highness said that she is certain of the ability of Saudi women in the active
participation in the process of the country progress in accordance with the
vision of the future, pointing to how important this forum is in order to enhance
the participation of women in the new economic environment and a review of the
extent of her ability to influence and change, appreciating the role of Asharqia Chamber to enhance the journey of Saudi women in the initiatives
and presenting programs and her keenness to diversify her tools in raising
awareness, qualification and training.
For
her part, the board member of Asharqia Chamber administration, Samira Al Swaig praised in her speech,
the patronage by Her highness Princess Abeer bint Faisal to the forum, stressing
how keen Her Highness is to support women issues in various fields, noting that
Saudi women have had over the years a great interest from the government of
Saudi Arabia that has resulted in remarkable achievements
in all fields, whether political, economic or social.
Al
Swaig, it is today with the launch of Vision 2030, Saudi women was granted a
great trust whether she is a worker or a business owner, by King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, God
bless him, by classifying her among the elements of power in the kingdom.
Al Swaig stressed that this forum is an
opportunity for the improvement of the performance and improving works, to
achieve positive reactions and support from the successful experiences and
initiatives in a number of countries, in addition to the topics it discusses to
support the approach to full empowerment of women, by determining basis and
strategies, in which by she can improve
the personal and professional efficiency, and she hoped that the edition of
this year will witness a major interaction and rich discussions, to achieve
clear formulations that can improve Saudi women either working or
businesswoman.
For
her part, stressed the head of the Arab Businesswomen Council Sheikha Dr. Hissa
Saad Al Abdullah Al Salem Al Sabah, in her speech, which was via video
conference technology, that women are the basis of any change in the community
so she has to be qualified for literacy and then the professional illiteracy by
training her professionally, scientifically and technically to the high
standards to achieve the needs and requirements of the improvement of the labor
market, noting that the portion of women in the Arab region in the labor market
does not exceed 20% of the paid business outside the agricultural sector.
She
considered that this year forum witnesses a remarkable presence as a step on the
way in the field of women empowerment, saying: (It is for women to take their
role in the economic and social development process, she must be prepared to
play different roles concentrating on performing an economic activity includes
the different national production sectors), pointing that the contribution of
women in economic activities are still low compared with males, due to the many
complicated reasons, whether economic or educational or other reasons.
Al
Sabah said, that the Arab region has made significant progress regarding achieving
equality in education between both sexes, considering it as an important step
toward achieving equality between men and women,
pointing that despite the major progress in the level of representation of
women in the parliament, it is still much lower than the desired level .
Al
Sabah stressed on the importance of women entering work with correct scientific
basis, because it will have a cultural and civilizational effect is will move through
the future generations, which are the pillars
of nations in economic and social improvement, and they will train future
generations to new patterns of life.
In the
opening session, which was titled (women Pioneering), Her Royal Highness
Princess, Modi bint Khaled bin Abdul Aziz stressed that the gap is still
widening regarding the incomes of female
workers compared male workers, pointing to a number of challenges facing the
Saudi women in the private sector not being employed with what fits her potentials.
Her Highness explained that the pioneering work has a
role in women participation in the economic life, especially that among the goals
of the Kingdom Vision 2030 is to raise the return of the work of the nonprofit
of 1% to 5%, stressing that the nonprofit work contributes to enhance the
economic aspects, pointing that despite the steady increase in the number of
women associations, but there are challenges facing the journey to volunteer
work to continue, such as the absence of the correct understanding of the
perspectives of voluntary work, noting to the survey by King Khalid charity
institution that concluded that the majority of people suffering of poverty are
females.
For her part, Her Royal Highness Princess, Adela bint Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz reviewed in her speech, the elements of the
empowerment of women, stressing the need to increase their participation in the
economic process, referring to the announcement by the World Bank that women
have nearly 6 thousand companies only, and that her presence as a chief
executive in companies is less than 5% and if they exist they follow the family
businesses.
Her Highness pointed to the challenges facing
businesswomen, saying: what women need in the current stage is motivation and encouraging environment for women
work supported in many ways, stressing that the weakness of family and social
support for women often reduces or rather demolishes her participation in the
economic life, urging women to the need to enhance her self confidence.
Her Highness said that changing the stereotyping about women and
their potentials needs to rethinking in school books and in forums and the awareness
campaigns, praising the role of the Asharqia Chamber in this regard being keen
to hold such forums and meetings.
For her part, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and
Minister of Planning and Development in
Kuwait, Hind Al Subaih, reviewed the Kuwaiti
women experience and how they moved from one dilemma to another, pointing that
it is still in front of the Kuwaiti women so much to achieve, noting that the
difficulties faced by women in the Arab environment are almost one, noting that
the struggle of Arab women is that the woman is against the woman.
Al
Subaih said that women are no less efficient than men, they are able to occupy
leading positions in many of the Arab and Gulf countries, stressing that self confidence
is the basis of women journey to achieve
her goals.
Subaih concluded by saying, that the eliminating of
restrictions around women especially in the work raises her contribution and
active participation in the progress and the overall economic process.
